Mr. Rob Abend
Robert Abend is the current director of bands at Dakota High School. Prior to his position at Dakota, he spent two years as the director of bands and choir at Southgate Anderson High School in Southgate, Mich. Mr. Abend also spent one year as the band and music teacher at Elizabeth Ann Johnson High School in Mt. Morris, Mich.
Mr. Abend graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township and went on to study music education at Eastern Michigan University. At EMU he studied percussion with Professor John Dorsey. He was a member of Symphonic Band, WInd Symphony, Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and the EMU “Pride of the Peninsula” Marching Band. His last year in the EMU Marching Band he served as drum major. While in college Mr. Abend was also the director of the Ypsilanti Winter Drumline.
Other than teaching, Mr. Abend likes spending time with his family, taking trips up north, golfing and playing music on his own. He hopes to continue working with the students, staff, administration and parents at Dakota to continue the great tradition of excellence their music program has held for many years.
